I found a terrific Webcomic called Looking For Group a few weeks ago...

The comic, set in an alternate World of Warcraft-ish universe, follows the adventures of an elven archer named Cale'Anon who is out to save the world.

Along the way, Cale gains traveling companions who have a slightly, uh, different set of priorities. In particular is Richard, an undead warlock who provides comic relief, strangely enough, in his absolute delight causing as much death and destruction as inhumanly possible.

If you're into gaming, fantasy, and humor, LFG is highly recommended!

Details have been scarce since Marvel Comics announced the development of a massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) called Marvel Universe Online based on their iconic superheroes Captain America, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Iron Man, Hulk, and many many others.

Cryptic Studios is developing the game in association with Marvel and Microsoft. Cryptic made the terrific City of Heroes/Villians games, so I am really looking forward to seeing what they can do with Marvel's rich history of stories and characters.

Unfortunately, even as more information is published about the game, those pesky details continue to remain elusive. So here are a few resources for fanboys like me...

HOW COME NOBODY TOLD ME THAT OPUS IS BACK?!?

Opus the Penguin is the star of the classic comic strip Bloom County, as well as the not-quite-classic Outland. And now I find out that Opus came back almost three frickin' years ago in his own Sunday comic called, appropriately enough, Opus.

Opus has been a hero of mine since a good friend (Hi Rach!) gave me the first Bloom County collection, Loose Tails, when we were in high school. Opus is a naive good-hearted doofus who tends to get swept along in the crazy events that surround him. (Not that I identify with him or anything. )

I need to get out those old Bloom County collections again. It's been too long since I've had a good silly laugh.

If you're a fan of comic books and unintentional sexual innuendo (and who isn't?), I have just the place for you (virtually speaking)...

Superdickery.com is a site created by a comic book fan to showcase some of the more ridiculous, humorous, and/or offensive comic book covers, storylines, and superpowers that have appeared throughout the years. For example, the section titled Seduction of the Innocent collects a great number of comic images featuring some of the funniest unintentional sexual references ever commited to paper.

All I can say is that the golden age of comics must've been a much more innocent (and politically incorrect) time. Enjoy!

I caught the sneak preview of Superman Returns last night. Very good movie, but you have to have a Bladder of Steel^TM to make it through the whole 2 ¹/₂+ hours.

My first impression is that Batman Begins was a better movie, but this one really conveys the sense of having both godlike power and human sensibilities. I need to see it a few more times and let it soak in. I thought that the flying special effects were AMAZING! I remember one of the taglines of the original movie was "You'll believe a man can fly" and that's never been more true.

Contrary to what some might expect, this is not a retelling or remake of the classic Christpher Reeve movies (the first couple anyway). This should be looked at as a sequel to those movies, and as an homage to Christopher Reeve himself. I highly recommend it if you are any kind of fan of truth, justice, and the American way.

Seeing this movie brought back to mind an extremely interesting forum posting entitled "Superman V: The Whole Sordid Saga" that made the rounds via e-mail a year or two ago. I'll let it speak for itself...

I found this online: the stange and evil tale of the production of Superman V. It spans decades, $50,000,000 is spent before they even have even settled on a writer or director. It's so horrible. It's out of date as it stops in the middle of 2004, but it's so horrible, you have to read it.

Disclaimer: I have no idea how much of the information in the forum posting is true. As the saying goes, "Disinformation wants to be free." And as far as I'm concerned, the Internet has become its natural habitat.

Since the original posting is so long, I've decided to be kind and summarize the highlights (and lowlights) in the extended body of this entry...

According to SuperHeroHype.com, Jack Black is supposedly in the running for the starring role in a Green Lantern movie?!? Don't get me wrong, I like Jack Black and think that he's a funny guy and a fine actor. But Jack never ever struck me as superheroic.

So, in the attempt to illustrate my point, I super-imposed (Photoshop rules!) a photo of Jack next to an Alex Ross painting of GL....


And now I'm having second thoughts... It almost looks like Alex had a younger buffer Jack Black in mind when he did this painting. What do you think?

A couple of interesting items from the Marvel universe today. SPOILER ALERT! Don't read if you are a Spider-Man fan not in the know...

It's not terribly often that a comic book storyline makes the front page of Yahoo.com, but apparently it's big news even in the real world when Spider-Man decides to unmask himself for all the world to see.

"I'm proud of who I am, and I'm here right now to prove it," the legendary webslinger tells a press conference called in New York's Times Square, before pulling off his mask and standing before the massed ranks of reporters as newspaper photographer Peter Parker.

To catch up on the back-story of the current Marvel "Civil War" storyline, which is what ultimately forced Spidey to reveal his Pete Parker-ness, watch one of the cool Civil War video trailers.
